Rui Claro is an Orthopedic Consultant Surgeon. He obtained the Degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto in 2001.  He obtained a PhD in Medical Sciences from the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences – University of Porto (ICBAS-UP),  focusing on Shoulder Pathology. 

Since 2023 he is a PhD in He has been lecturing on Orthopedics in the Medicine Course at ICBAS-UP since 2012.

Presently, he is the Coordinator of the Shoulder Group within the Orthopedic Department of Centro Hospitalar Universitário de Santo António. Additionally, he contributes actively as a member of the Registry Committee for the European Society for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (SECEC-ESSSE) and as a Teaching Center of SECEC-ESSSE (2021-2025).

Dr. Claro’s primary clinical and research interests encompass shoulder surgery, arthroplasty, arthroscopy, orthobiologics, tissue engineering, and robotics.

His leadership roles include serving as the President of the Portuguese Society for Shoulder and Elbow from 2020 to 2022, as well as acting as the National Delegate for SECEC-ESSSE in 2022.
