A recently published paper by Luís Crisóstomo and Marco G. Alves, researchers of the Biology and Genetics of Reproduction group of UMIB, was featured in a press release of the American Journal of Physiology – Endocrinology and Metabolism.
In this paper, the first of its kind, the researchers describe the irreversible effects of high-fat diets during childhood and adolescence in the testicular physiology and sperm quality later in life, using a mouse model.
Their findings alert for the potential danger of childhood obesity, and early-onset type 2 diabetes in the reproductive health of men.
