Mário Sousa is the group leader of the Biology and Genetics of Reproduction/Molecular and Cellular Medicine group, and a full professor at ICBAS. With 530 publications in his curriculum, as well as international book chapters and oral presentations, he has been a pioneer in the treatment of male infertility, both by unveiling physiologic mechanisms yet unknown, and by introducing new treatments. Over the years he has supervised several PhD theses and MsC dissertations, as well as post-doctoral researchers, and has received several prizes and nominations, most recently the “Asian Journal of Andrology Outstanding Paper Award” in 2019. His inclusion in the “World’s Top 2% Scientists list” is yet another distinction that demonstrates the importance of his work in the field of male infertility
