LUISA AZEVEDO graduated in Biology in 1999 and completed her PhD in 2004 at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP). Her main avenue of research is focused on genetic variability and epistatic interactions, a theme that was developed during her time at the Population Genetics and Evolution Group of i3S. From 2011-2022, she lectured as a guest Assistant Professor at the Department of Biology of FCUP.
Currently, Dr. Azevedo is member of the Unit for Multidisciplinary Research in Biomedicine (UMIB) of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of Abel Salazar at the University of Porto (ICBAS) where her research will focus on (a) the identification and characterization of genetic modifiers of disease genes and (b) the exploration of the deleteriousness of de novo mutations, with a view to improving our understanding of genotype-phenotype correlations.
