UMIB’s External Advisor Receives 2025 Rising Stars in Urology Research Award

Professor Filipe de Carvalho, UMIB´s external advisor, has been distinguished with the Rising Stars in Urology Research Award 2025, awarded by the Urology Care Foundation and the American Urological Association (AUA).

Currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Urology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Boston), Professor de Carvalho has been recognized for his research in bladder cancer. His work focuses on tumor-associated macrophages—immune cells that can hinder the effectiveness of immunotherapy. By targeting these cells, his research seeks to enhance chemo-immunotherapy and to identify the patient subgroups most likely to benefit from macrophage-directed treatments.

This award highlights the international impact and scientific excellence of his research, which bridges laboratory discoveries and clinical innovation to improve patient outcomes. UMIB celebrates this achievement and the ongoing contributions of Professor de Carvalho to the scientific community.
