Carolina was born in Porto, Portugal, in 1996. She pursued her undergraduate studies at ICBAS-UP, from which she obtained a medical degree in 2020. Since 2016, she has been pursuing clinical and translational research on gut-hormones, obesity, and diabetes under Professor Mariana P. Monteiro at UMIB at ICBAS-UP. She pursued her medical residency at Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Porto. Currently, she is a PhD student under Professor Jens Juul Holst at University of Copenhagen and Hvidovre Hospital, Denmark, with focus on mechanisms for onset and management of hypoglycemia after bariatric surgery.
