Henrique Cyrne Carvalho

He graduated in medicine at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS) of Porto University in June 1983.
From 1984 to 1989 he became member of the board of the direction of the Portuguese Medical Organization (Órdem dos Médicos).
He perused his general medical internship in Hospital de Santo António – Porto, from 1984 until 1985
He became Junior Assistant in ICBAS (from 1985 to 1986), and Invited Assistant of Medicine in 1990.
In December 1990, he started his internship in interventional cardiology at Hospital de São João, that lasted for the next 3 years.
In April 1992 he became Assistant Professor of Cardiology and in June of the same year he graduated in cardiology, with the final classification of 19,4 over 20.
In 1993 he has won a Grant of the Portuguese Society of Cardiology, and went to Toulouse for one- year training period on interventional cardiology, at the “Unité de Cardiologie Interventionnelle” of Pasteur Clinic, under the supervision of Professor Jean Marco and Dr. Jean Fajadet
In 1993 he became member of the board of cardiology of the Portuguese “Ordem dos Médicos” and of the French “Ordre des Médicins”.
In October 1994, after his arrival from Toulouse, he became director of the recent born Interventional Cardiology Cath-lab, in “Hospital de Santo António”, Porto.
In 1995 he was elected, and re-elected in 1997, to de direction board of the Working Group of Intervention Cardiology, of the Portuguese Society of Cardiology.
In 1996 e attended the “Special ALS (Advanced Life Support) Instructor Course”, of the United Kingdom Resuscitation Council, that he concluded with the highest grade.
In 1997 he was invited to the editorial board of the “Revista Portuguesa de Cardiologia”.
In 1999 and in 2001 he was elected to the national direction board of the Portuguese Society of Cardiology.
In 2000 he got his PhD degree in Medicine by the University of Porto.
In 2002 he was nominated to the Permanent Commission of the Portuguese Society of Cardiology to the creation of the “Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation School”.
From 2002 until 2013 e was president of the Pedagogic Commission of the Course of Medicine.
In 2006 he was designated by de ministry of health as advisor assistant, to the coordinator of cardiovascular diseases.
In 2008 he joined the editorial board of the Portuguese edition of the European Heart Journal.
In 2009 he got the sub-specialty of Cardiovascular Intervention, from de Portuguese Medical Association (Ordem dos Médicos)
From 2008 to 2014 he was the director of the Intervention Cardiology Cath-lab of the hospital of Vila Real (Centro Hospitalar de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro)
In 2010 he became member of the Scientific Commission of the course of medicine in ICBAS
In 2011 he was nominated regent of the chair of Medicine 1 and Medical specialties of the ICBAS course of Medicine.
From 2008 to 2014 he was the director of the Intervention Cardiology Cath-lab of the hospital of S. Pedro in Leiria (Centro Hospitalar Leiria-Pombal)
In 2008 he joined the editorial board of the Portuguese edition of Circulation, as vice-director.
In 2014 he got the title of Aggregated Professor on Medical Sciences, in an academic session at ICBAS, University of Porto
In 2014 he was elected to the Representative Council of ICBAS (2014-2018), and in same year he was elected to the Scientific Council of ICBAS (2014-2018).
In 2015 e became Associated Professor.
In 2016 he was designated Director of the Course of Medicine of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of Porto University (ICBAS)
In 2016 he applied for Senior Cardiologist, having been approved with the final classification of 19.93 values, over 20.
He is member of UMIB (Unit for Multidisciplinary Research in Biomedicine) Research Group since 2017
He is Full Professor since 2017.
He Is Dean of ICBAS from December 2018
On regard of his clinical practice, he coordinated, as team leader, more than 50.000 cardiac intervention procedures (coronary and structural), having been the first operator in more than 20.000 (diagnostic and therapeutic procedures).
He performed more than 150 lectures in Portuguese and international scientific meetings.
He published sixty articles in pear revue scientific magazines (as first author, senior author or co- author), seven chapters of scientific books, and a hundred and forty-eight articles as abstracts in pear revue publications.
He is/was the coordinator of fifteen master degree students, and seven PhD students. He is/was also Co-coordinator of two PhD students.
He was member of the Organizing Committee or Scientific committee of twenty-four scientific meetings, five of them being the Portuguese Congress of Cardiology.
